Round Table is all about having fun with a group of friends while at the same time trying to help the local community.

Round Table started with just one man's idea. Louis Marchesi was a member of Rotary in Norwich but had the brainwave of starting a new organization for young men between the ages of 18-40.

Round Table was born with the motto 'Adopt, Adapt, Improve' and from small beginnings of one club in Norwich, Louis' dream has become a reality, with over 1,000 clubs and 13,000 members.

Round Tables operate individually but with a common cause, and together they form The National Association of Round Tables of Great Britain and Ireland. But that's not all.. Round Table exists throughout the world and has links with like-minded clubs internationally.

So what is Round Table?

It is an association of Clubs for young men aged between 18 and 40, providing a range of social and community service related opportunities for its members. Members come from all walks of life, they make a difference in their local communities and have a great deal of fun in doing so. For the mobile professional of today, it is an ideal organization for meeting like minded young men, getting involved locally and building a network of friends whilst serving the less privileged.

What does Round table do?

The focal point of Round Table is its regular meetings. Most Tables meet twice a month, usually in the evening and sometimes with a meal.

The meetings are an opportunity for many types of activity such as a guest speaker, visit to a place of interest (e.g. local brewery), quizzes, debates, talks on various subjects, or a sports evening. They frequently include discussions on forthcoming social and service projects. Have a look at the Events Diary and the individual Round Table pages accessible through the National web site to see what is going on around the country.

Visitors and potential members will always be made particularly welcome, as Round Table provides an ideal opportunity to establish new friendships and build networks."

 Who joins and why?

The members of Round Table come from all walks of life and join for a variety of reasons - perhaps as a gateway to relaxation and to enjoyment, or as a way of participating in the local community. It is, of course, an ideal way for those who have moved into a new area to find new friends of a similar age.

Membership of Round Table helps to create confidence and character. The individual learns quickly to mix and 'have-a-go' at helping to organize and run meetings and events. The organization is run by and for Tablers as a hobby.

How do I become a member?

After attending as a guest for a time, potential members are invited to join. There are no barriers regarding one's political, religious, occupational or marital status and the only qualification is to be male, over 18 and under 40.

What about the costs and commitment involved?

There is an annual subscription fee but this varies between the clubs and is dependent on their location and activities. All members are required to attend at least 60% of meetings (these are twice a month and will often include a meal and drinks) and to support and participate in as many of the other activities as possible. As with any hobby the more you put in, the more you get out. This is the challenge of Round Table.

What if I move to another part of the country?

This is where being a member of Round Table really pays off. If you move elsewhere there will be a Round Table Club close by. Once a member of Round Table always a member. If you find yourself in an unfamiliar village, town, city or country then there will be a group of friends waiting to welcome you.. all you have to do is phone them and say that you've moved in. You then simply transfer from your old Table/Circle to the new one.
